A 45-year-old civil engineer, Adebola Bamidele, who allegedly obtained N15m from a pastor to renovate and redesign his two-storey building and failed to do the job, was on Wednesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, who lives in the Kosofe area of Lagos, is facing a two counts obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, said the complainant, a pastor, brought a petition to Alapere Police Station to report the incident.
He said the complainant reported that on February 23 he gave the accused of Deleone Engineering Limited a job to renovate and reconstruct his building at Isolo for which he collected N15m.
“He collected the money to do the job and promised to complete it by May.
“The accused failed to do the job and did not refund the money.”
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 323(1), (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The engineer, however, pleaded not guilty.
Council to the accused, Mr. Darlington Agbale, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
The prosecutor, however, objected to the bail, saying the amount involved is huge.
The Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, admitted the accused to a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum, who must each deposit N50, 000 in the court’s Chief Registrar’s account.
Sule-Amzat said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and must own a landed property in Lagos State.
The case was adjourned to November 7 for mention.Punch
